WORCESTER — A state police graduation ceremony is underway at the DCU Center Wednesday, with Gov. Maura Healey among those on hand.

The recruits recently completed training at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree.

The 185 soon-to-be graduates were classmates of Enrique Delgado-Garcia, a state police recruit who died after falling unconscious during a boxing exercise at the academy on Sept. 12.

Outside the DCU Center, around 100 protesters gathered in support of Delgado-Garcia.

His death was followed by criticism of the training program. Public officials and Delgado-Garcia’s family called for an investigation, with Attorney General Andrea Campbell putting David Meier in charge of an inquiry. The private attorney is a former Suffolk County prosecutor.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., whose office would typically investigate the death, stepped aside from the case , citing Delgado-Garcia’s time as a victim-witness advocate for the office.
