Hurricane Milton impacts travelers at NYC airports

Hurricane Milton, which made landfall in Florida Wednesday night, took a toll on travel, causing cancellations at New York’s LaGuardia airport. “For like a solid hour or two, we were just panicking and freaking out trying to figure out what we’re going to do,” said Christopher Colato, who was visiting New York and traveling back home. The Floridian was forced to fly to Fort Lauderdale, while the National Hurricane Center forecast up to 100 mph winds in Orlando. “Our first flight got canceled back to Orlando because [the airports were] closed, so we’re just trying to hunker down,” Colato said. “Hopefully, we’ll be fine for the hurricane.” Those who arrived at LaGuardia on Wednesday, like the Megenis family, experienced similar issues. The family of six says they had to cut their trip to Orlando short, as they celebrated their child Carter’s fifth birthday. “We were supposed to leave tomorrow,” said David Megenis. “We luckily, got a rental car, drove up to Atlanta just to get back up home to Long Island. So, we’re grateful to be back.” ”
