PITTSBURGH – Nurses at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital have unanimously voted to authorize a strike. A statement from the nurses’ union Wednesday said many nurses have grown alarmed by UPMC closing dozens of beds throughout the hospital due to understaffing, saying their policies have undermined Western Psychiatrics’ ability to handle the growing amount of mental health and substance abuse crisis in the region.
