Take a minute and say a prayer for the people of Florida if you can, they sure need it. Hurricane Milton made landfall at around 8:30pm tonight near Siesta Key, Florida, and though it’s been downgraded to a Category 3, the devastation is immense. I lived in Tampa for 4 years and my friends down there tell me the storm is as intense as you would imagine. Power outages have run rampant, leaving over 1 million people currently without electricity. Videos of the storm surge are spectacularly terrifying. Areas dry one minute are 10 feet underwater seemingly in the next. Cars, homes, and businesses are being drowned in the raging storm waters as winds of 120+ miles per hour send trees and debris flying. https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1844018960322441598 Perhaps the most startling image so far is that of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, home of the Tampa Bay Rays. As Hurricane Milton rolled in, the MLB stadium long decried as one of the worst in professional sports did its best to hang on, but the roof made of Teflon-coated fiberglass couldn’t withstand the wind’s force and tore into thin strips. Take a look at these videos: https://twitter.com/PageWebber/status/1844211375729754433 Obviously that’s horrible but the story gets worse… Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Tropicana Field would be used as a base camp for first responders and cleanup crews, meaning both people and equipment alike are now exposed to the elements, not to mention all the well-laid rescue plans can be tossed in the trash given their homebase is literally being torn to pieces. https://twitter.com/bubola/status/1844215943909765448?s=46&t=MJsZPDU4NSclKj0QlsD9vQ Whoever decided to put tarps on a baseball field near a hurricane prone area needs to rethink their career but the fact that the people risking it all to save those in danger now have no place to regroup and refuel at just makes me sick and worried that even more bad may come out of this storm. If you’re in Florida, please stay safe and if you’re elsewhere, keep the Sunshine State in your prayers. https://twitter.com/BrianEntin/status/1844220284515282956
