Local school districts show a negative school rate on ballot

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) —As early voting begins in less than two weeks, many things will be on the ballot this November to vote for locally. The first is school tax rates; this year, some districts are showing a negative school tax rate.

Follett ISD is among the first districts to show this language on their ballot. The sample ballot states that if passed, it would ratify the AD Valorem Tax Rate of $1.0164 for the current year. This rate will result in a negative 30.7% in patience and operations revenue.

Follett ISD superintendent Megan Robertson sent a statement to MyHighPlains.com confirming that if passed, that would decrease the amount the district collects for maintenance and operations compared to last year. The statement added that their property values went down by 37%. She added the district would receive $276,000 less in funding from local revenue.

McLean ISD’s proposition would ratify the AD Valorem tax rate of $0.9847. It results in a negative 30.77% in maintenance & operations tax revenue, which would add a negative $28,000 to that budget.
