Wichita mother arrested in shooting of her 16-year-old son, WPD says

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 46-year-old Wichita woman has been arrested after police allege that she shot her 16-year-old son Wednesday morning. The son is in “extremely critical condition,” police say.

The shooting call came in around 8:15 a.m. from the 9100 block of E. Harry at the Claremont Apartments.

The Wichita Police Department says a woman called 911 and reported that she shot her son. First responders rushed to the scene and found the 16-year-old victim inside an apartment. He had been shot once.

Officers took the mother into custody. During their investigation, detectives learned of a previously unreported incident. According to the WPD, the woman threatened an ex-husband and his current girlfriend with a gun in March.

The WPD booked the mother on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated assault domestic violence, and aggravated assault.
