Police: Rockford man strangles pregnant woman in cell phone store

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Charvez Hansel, 32, for allegedly strangling a pregnant woman in a local cell phone store.

On September 28th, around 2 p.m., officers responded to a domestic incident involving a pregnant woman who was attacked while working at this local phone store. Police saw redness around her neck immediately when speaking to her.

The victim told authorities that Hansel walked into the store and started to yell at her. He proceeded to get close enough to start strangling her, according to court records.

The woman told officials she yelled for one of her co-workers, but the suspect continued to push her backward into another room as he strangled her. She eventually fell backward and her co-worker entered the room, reports said.

The co-worker intervened and persuaded Hansel to leave the business, according to court documents.

Due to call volume and the unavailability of additional officers, police did not attempt to find Hansel at that time, according to the arrest report. The suspect was eventually apprehended and booked into the Winnebago County Jail on October 9th.
