Machesney Park celebrates 100th birthday of WWII veteran Floyd Self

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — First responders and community leaders gathered in Machesney Park on Wednesday to celebrate the 100th birthday of Floyd Self.

Family, friends, and community members gathered outside Self’s home for a surprise drive-by parade that was organized by Assisting Hands Home Care and the Veterans Affairs Office.

“Everybody’s just been so excited and happy, and he’s just beside himself over there,” his daughter, Carolyn Seaberg, said. “He was completely surprised, he knew nothing about this. So, he’s just kind of overwhelmed right now I think.”
