Ex-CIA Guard From Afghanistan Suspected of Terrorism

Additional Coverage:

An Afghan man arrested for plotting a terrorist attack on Election Day was previously a security guard for the CIA in Afghanistan, according to sources.

Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, allegedly conspired to kill Americans with an assault rifle on behalf of ISIS. It’s unclear if he was radicalized before or after arriving in the U.S. in 2021.

Tawhedi entered the U.S. under a Special Immigrant Visa for Afghans who worked with the U.S. government. However, sources claim he actually entered on humanitarian parole, which typically involves less screening.

Despite concerns about proper screening of Afghan refugees during the chaotic U.S. withdrawal, officials insist Tawhedi underwent robust vetting.

Tawhedi’s arrest has sparked political controversy, with Republicans accusing the Biden administration of importing a terrorist.

According to court documents, Tawhedi planned his attack for Election Day and intended to target large gatherings. He was arrested after meeting with undercover agents to purchase weapons for the attack.
