Hundreds of Louisiana volunteers in Florida for Milton recovery

As the sun rose Thursday on Florida, revealing the damage wrought by Hurricane Milton, hundreds of Louisiana National Guard troops and other volunteers were there, lending a helping hand.

Lt. Col. Noel Collins with the Louisiana National Guard says they have sent helicopters, pilots. trucks, engineers, and more.

“We have aviators who left (Tuesday) to go help with search and rescue operations as soon as conditions allow,” said Collins.

There are also 500 soldiers from the 225th Engineer Brigade to support debris removal, road clearing, and logistics.

“They will be able to assist with high-water vehicles, so that can be with search and rescue as well as the transportation and distribution of critical supplies,” Collins said.

There are also urban search and rescue teams from fire departments around the state, including New Orleans and Kenner, as well as volunteers from the Cajun Navy.
