The University of Kentucky’s Donations for Citations food drive is returning later this month. It’s being hosted by the school’s Transportation Services department.
UK students and employees can donate canned food or personal care items to waive a 30 dollar parking ticket.
This time, the school is competing with a similar drive at the University of Tennessee.
“It’s a friendly contest, obviously. And both departments, both presidents of the Student Government Association and both Park and transit departments help plan this. I think it’s a great idea. It makes it kind of interesting to see how this all ends out,” Transportation Services Associate Director Mike Scales said.
Scales says food pantries are a huge help to the school’s growing student body.
“I can remember going to college, it could be a struggle to make it week to week, as far as getting your groceries and making them last,” Scales said. “This pantry allows a place for any student to come in and help stock their own personal shelves with items that help them get through the tough times.”
