As a nutrition expert, she’s identified some risky choices.
Nichole Andrews, an oncology dietitian and author based in Washington, shares her insights on seven foods and drinks that may increase cancer risk or recurrence.
In a viral TikTok video with 2.9 million views, Andrews advises avoiding alcohol, processed meats, soda, red meat, coffee drinks, white grains, and plant-based milk.
Alcohol
Toasting to health? Andrews opts for total abstinence. “I don’t drink any alcohol. All types, even red wine, raise the risk of six different cancers.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirms that alcohol increases the risk of cancers in the mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, colon, rectum, liver, and breast. This is because our bodies break alcohol down into acetaldehyde. This chemical can harm DNA and hinder the body’s repair processes. Higher consumption means higher risk.
In an earlier video, Andrews emphasized that cutting out alcohol altogether is the best first step to lower cancer risk.
