Oregon revealed their uniform combination for the clash Saturday in Autzen Stadium, #2 Ohio State versus #3 Ducks, and both the home team and the home fans will be Back In Black.
It’s a retro look with diamond plate at the shoulder pads, businesslike and fierce. With ESPN College GameDay and the Josh Pate Once Upon a Saturday Tour both in town, plus a four- and five-star-studded cast of elite recruits, the look is sure to make an impression, a far more powerful one if the three-point home underdogs succeed in going toe-to-toe with Ryan Day’s Buckeyes, 5-0 this season, 61-8 since he took over in 2019 (record includes a three-game interim stint in 2018.)
The abrupt color change is very much in keeping with Oregon’s history, which has always been to thumb its nose at tradition in search of innovation. That’s a sharp contrast to their blue-blood opponent, steeped in tradition with a long history of winning at a high level. The Buckeyes have finished in the AP Top Ten in every season of Day’s tenure, four of five years in the Top Five.
