National Guard sergeant from Leominster now charged with murder in boyfriend’s death

WORCESTER ― A Leominster woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend at their home in May was arraigned Thursday on a murder charge in Worcester Superior Court.

Jami S. Parker, 28, was ordered held without bail following a brief arraignment. She pleaded not guilty as she held back tears.

Police in May alleged that Parker, a sergeant in the National Guard with no criminal record , shot and killed her boyfriend, 52-year-old Jeffrey Carr, in the head following an argument May 1.

Court records show Parker had taken out restraining orders against Carr in the past and a family member of hers in May told reporters she was a “victim.”

Lawyers, as is typical for arraignments in Superior Court, did not discuss the case Thursday and Parker’s lawyer, Michael Hussey, declined to comment afterward.

Parker was initially arraigned May 2 in Leominster District Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and armed assault to murder.

Parker was indicted on the murder charge by a Worcester County grand jury Sept. 30, records show. She has been held without bail since her arraignment in Leominster.
