PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The northern lights put on a show in Rhode Island and Massachusetts Thursday night, filling the sky with an array of vibrant colors.
The aurora borealis was visible thanks to a G4 (severe) storm , according to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.
The dazzling display is caused by the interaction between electrically charged particles from the sun and gases in the Earth’s atmosphere.
