Group supporting abortion ballot question launches digital ad

A screen grab from the new digital ad promoting abortion rights.

The group Freedom in Reproduction – Maryland, which is supporting the statewide ballot initiative to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, is launching a $500,000 digital ad campaign to pass the measure. It is the largest media expenditure on behalf of the ballot question so far.

The 30-second ad opens with pictures of statehouses in Vermont, Michigan and Ohio, where reproductive rights have already been voted into the states’ constitutions “so politicians can never take away the freedom to decide,” graphics in the ad say.

“And now it’s our time,” a narrator says. “Time to come together and protect abortion rights for all Marylanders.” The ad exhorts voters to “step up to guarantee abortion rights.”

Maryland is one of 10 states where voters in November will cast ballots on the question of abortion access.

“This new ad reinforces the urgency we feel to protect all Marylanders,” said Erin Bradley, chairperson of FIRM and vice president of Planned Parenthood of Maryland. “Our state is not immune to national forces. All across the country, anti-abortion activists are working to flip state legislatures and pack courts to force through their extreme agenda.”
