‘Sudden collapse’ of wall sends bricks crashing to ground in St. Paul

Bricks rained down on the sidewalk at a busy corner of St. Paul when a parapet wall suffered a “sudden collapse.”

St. Paul Fire Department said the collapse happened at a building on the southwest corner of the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street, State Street and George Street East.

The ground-level store was previously home to the Riverview Economic Development Association, with the fire department saying the unit is currently vacant.

Three people however did have to be evacuated from the upstairs apartment, with firefighters closing down State Street at Cesar Chavez as building inspectors and city engineers arrived at the scene.

There is no word as of Thursday afternoon as to the safety of the building going forward.
