Hurricane Milton: Tornado cut swath of destruction through one Wellington neighborhood

WELLINGTON — For Mike and Heather Brodnicki, securing their blown-out garage doors with plywood and sealing their front door with a large piece of plastic was nothing more than an inconvenience.

Not when their next-door neighbors on Cypress Park Drive had a difficult time exiting their home after a tornado spawned by Hurricane Milton dropped a vehicle on its side up against their entryway, and the home two doors away was completely missing three garage doors and most of the glass in the windows.

“We walked out, the door was off and you’re like, ‘Holy crap. Holy crap,’ ” Mike Brodnicki said. “And then you look (next door), you’re like, ‘Where’s his car?’

“There’s a lot of other people in the community a lot worse than us.”

A large orange ‘X’ is spray-painted on five homes on the street, including the Brodnicki’s, after the tornado cut a swath through this neighborhood that borders Wellington National Golf Club.

Those residents were not allowed to stay in their homes Wednesday night. The Brodnickis hoped to return Thursday.
