Portland High School’s Dominic Novara is this week’s LSJ ‘Student of the Week’

School districts across the Lansing area nominated students to be recognized as high achievers in the Lansing State Journal.

This week’s Student of the Week contest featured three high school students from Laingsburg, Portland and Holt.

Winner: Dominic Novara, Portland High School

Dominic is a senior at Portland High School. He’s a varsity football player and varsity basketball player. He also works with special education students at the high school by volunteering as a mentor. Last spring, he participated in the school’s unified basketball game as a “sidekick” and helped students play a game in an all-school assembly.

Other students recognized:

Andrew Park, Laingsburg High School: Andrew is a senior at Laingsburg High School. He is a varsity soccer player and has participated in track and field. In September, he was nominated for a scholarship to the University of Michigan by the Cook Family Foundation and has a chance to win a four-year, full-tuition, Bruce and Jacqueline Cook Scholarship administered by U-M Ann Arbor.
