“America’s Sheriff” speaks on disaster relief efforts in WNC

For years those of us from the Upstate have known that Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright “shoots from the hip”. Well, now the rest of the country has seen that after a viral video surfaced that showed Wright in Western North Carolina speaking on the relief efforts there.

He joined Charlie James Show on Thursday and spoke on what he saw there.
Wright said “Hadn’t seen a lot from them guys (FEMA), I think it is just a lack of people they had up there”.

Sheriff Wright then elaborated on the volunteer efforts and the sheer destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Wright added “A ton of really good men and women from all over America, coming in and taking care of stuff. There’s not much of Chimney Rock left, the river looked like it was 20-30 feet wider, houses are cut in half and some are gone”.

He also dispelled some internet rumors. “I’ve seen posts that say they are finding dead bodies in trees, not that I saw. I talked to Sheriff Ellenburg (Rutherford County NC), he’s like not that we know of”.
