Dumas High School wins $25k in national contest, moves to finals

DUMAS, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with T-Mobile announced that Dumas High School is one of 16 schools across the country and one of only two schools in Texas to receive a $25,000 grant as part of T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition that launched in early August.

According to T-Mobile officials, more than 1,700 high schools nationwide entered the contest, including 132 high schools in Texas, and the award will help Dumas High School and their students give their 57-year-old stadium an upgrade that includes new seating, stadium lighting, technology, and amenities.

“We are so excited and honored to have been chosen as 1 of the 16 finalists,” said Aaron Dunnam, Dumas Independent School District athletic director and Dumas High School head football coach.  “This is such a great opportunity to partner with T-Mobile and have a chance to win the grand prize which would transform our 57-year-old stadium. Demon Stadium is the city hub where all of the different sports from Football, Soccer, Track & Field, Special Olympics, Band, Cheerleading, Athletic Training, Cross Country, yearly Commencement Ceremony, city’s 4th of July fireworks show and much much more take place here.  A big Thank You to T-Mobile for this sweepstakes that gives back to communities and school districts like Dumas High School”
