ROCKWALL, Texas- Aviation Machinists Mate 2nd Class Tristan York, of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Aviation Machinists Mate Airman David Herrera, of Rockwall, Texas, performed maintenance on an F/A-18 jet engine aboard the USS George Washington on October 3, 2024. The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is currently underway in the Pacific Ocean.The USS George Washington is part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s 3rd Fleet, which operates naval forces in the Indo-Pacific region. The fleet provides realistic and relevant training necessary to execute the Navy’s roles of sea control and power projection, according to a press release from the U.S. Navy. The 3rd Fleet works closely with other numbered fleets to provide commanders with capable, ready forces to deploy forward and succeed in various situations, including day-to-day competition, crisis, and conflict.
