‘Tell our stories of our ancestors’: FAHM Fest returns to Stockton for 4th year Saturday

Despite construction of the Crosstown Freeway that wiped out a flourishing and established Filipino neighborhood , their history continues to be a significant part of Stockton’s legacy.

October is Filipino American History Month, and FAHM Fest returns for its fourth year at the San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Stockton’s rich history of the Filipino American community can’t be denied.

“It’s a lot of rich history here that a lot of people don’t know about,” said Darleen Mabalon, entertainment team member for FAHM Fest. “What we’re doing currently, that’s something I think (is) important to continue. It’s not just for Filipinos, but (the) community as a whole, bringing us all together at this festival and sharing all our culture.”

Community, family, cultural awareness, and history are the words that Mabalon used to describe FAHM Fest for those who have not attended before.

The free event will kick off with “Know History, Know Self Symposium,” starting at 8 a.m. at the Dawn Mabalon Forum. The festival will follow at 11 a.m. at the Dolores Huerta Plaza. This year’s event headliner is Filipino-American hip-hop artist Talilo Marfil .
