Oregon Man Arrested for Hazardous Waste Spills on Santa Rosa Roads

The Driver who was responsible for spilling several gallons of hazardous waste on several Santa Rosa roads has been arrested. Police say 78-year-old Lester Sturm of Malin, Oregon drove his 2019 red Chevrolet passenger truck to pick up the horse trailer he had stored in Petaluma. Sturm had stored the liquid hazardous waste and containers in the horse trailer and intended to transport the liquids to his property in Malin. On September 28th, Sturm spilled several hundred gallons of liquid onto numerous roadways while driving, prompting numerous full and partial road closures. Sturm later returned to Santa Rosa for questioning during which investigators determined that the spills were negligent and not intentional. Sturm was arrested for dumping of a hazardous substance and false labeling of a hazardous material.
