Alabama sends additional support to Florida and North Carolina in wake of hurricanes

Gov. Kay Ivey announced the deployment of additional assistance to Florida from the Alabama departments of Transportation and Public Health workers to Florida and North Carolina on Friday.

An 18-person team, all from the Fayette area of ALDOT’s West Central Region, will deploy Saturday to Gainesville, Florida, to assist with cleanup and recovery efforts from damages caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. They will work with the Florida Department of Transportation to coordinate to assist in affected areas.

The deployment will last for 10 days, with the department being prepared to send additional crews if needed.

The ADPH will deploy a nine-member public health support team to North Carolina to assist recovery. The team will operate in mass care shelters to provide public health nursing services and other assistance.

“As many of our neighboring states continue recovering from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Alabama is stepping up to offer our help in any way we can, ” Ivey said in a release. “Alabama is a state where neighbors help neighbors in our own times of need, and we are proud to do exactly that for the states impacted by these merciless storms.”
