Newberg school district hires ‘long-term’ interim superintendent

The individual who will lead the Newberg-Dundee school district through its next phase has been chosen.

Dave Parker, who served in the district for six years as a human resources director and assistant superintendent, was chosen from among a pool of applicants to become interim superintendent through June 2026. He will replace Paula Radich, who volunteered to lead the district when former superintendent Stephen Phillips went on medical leave in June.

Parker’s most recent experience in education was as superintendent of the Forest Grove School District from 2018 to 2024, when he said he would retire. He served as assistant superintendent in Newberg from 2012 to 2018 after a two-year stint as executive director of secondary education in Hillsboro from 2010 to 2012. He also served in a variety of other positions in the Hillsboro School District, ranging from teaching network management and programming, the sciences and serving as head volleyball coach for three years.

Parker has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Portland State University, a teaching degree from Portland State University, a master’s degree in science and a continuing administration license from Lewis & Clark College in Portland.
