Eva Women’s Clinic adds mobile medical unit to improve outreach

CANTON − Eva Women’s Clinic has a new way to help women who need pregnancy-related services.

The provider now has a mobile unit where women can receive services like free pregnancy ultrasounds, pregnancy tests and screenings for sexually transmitted infections.

With locations at 2645 Cleveland Ave. NW in Canton, and at 715 E. Buchtel Ave. in Akron, Eva Women’s Clinic operates under the auspices of the Pregnancy & Parenting Center, a faith-based nonprofit.

All services are free.

Advocates say mobile units have the potential to increase access to care, offer more flexibility in providing services, can help foster health-care education and outreach, and can reduce operating costs compared to a brick-and-mortar location.

Pregnancy & Parenting Center CEO Kathy Specht said planning for the mobile unit has been underway for a while.

Specht said the clinic-on-wheels was purchased for $300,000. Part of its cost was covered by a large grant from a vendor.

She credits Candi Durbin, the agency’s medical services director, for finally making it happen.
