Nevada’s jobless rate second highest in the U.S.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Nevada continues to see high unemployment numbers and locals across the valley are weighing in on the struggles they’ve seen.

8 News Now spoke to a labor economist and had the latest on the percentages Nevada is encountering.

The effects and tolls of unemployment have crippled and frustrated thousands around Southern Nevada. Lawrence Losch has been looking for work for a lengthy period and sounded off on the headaches.

“I felt like it was easier to find work elsewhere. I’ve applied to a lot of places and haven’t gotten a response so I’m going to keep looking,” Losch said.

Unemployment continues to rise in Nevada. The state’s unemployment rate ranks number two as the highest in the country just behind Washington DC.

Nevada’s numbers show the differences with the rest of the U.S. In the latest statistics, Nevada’s unemployment ranks at 5.5% whereas the overall percentage for the U.S. is at 4.2%.

Clark County is listed a little over six percent, while Nye County ranked the highest in the state at 7.3%.
