Ensign Deke Slaton, an Atlanta native, was honored with the Leadership Management Award during graduation exercises on Sept. 20 at the Navy Supply Corps School in Newport, Rhode Island.

Slaton, a 2009 graduate of Druid Hills High School, received this honor for obtaining the highest average in the Leadership course while completing the Basic Qualification Course, an intensive program that prepares officers for the logistical demands of the Navy Supply Corps, which is considered to be one of the Navy’s greatest assets.

The BQC is a crucial step for aspiring Supply Corps officers, equipping them with the skills to manage supply chains and provide logistical support for the Navy.

Slaton joined the Navy 14 years ago. Slaton also earned a degree from Clark Atlanta University in 2014.

“This award inspires me to continue finding innovative ways to lead at the highest level throughout the naval fleet and community,” said Slaton. “I’ve been a service member of the U.S. Navy since I was 19 years old, this award is a testament to all of the amazing leaders who have inspired me. I hope to continue this cycle.”
