Officers found a 35-year-old man injured inside one of the cars. Paramedics took him to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities believe the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Through the initial investigation, detectives believe the man ran a red light while heading eastbound on 400 South and collided with a car traveling north on State Street. SLCPD is working to determine whether impairment and excessive speeds were factors in the crash.
The accident resulted in a closure of the intersection and a significant TRAX disruption.
