Anyone can now get on Fort Myers Beach without a hurricane re-entry pass as of Saturday, the town announced, though a curfew remains in place.
“Now that most of the sand and debris have been cleared from the roads and power has been restored to majority of the island, we feel comfortable lifting the (program),” wrote town spokeswoman Nicole Berzin in a release.
The town thanked residents “for their proactiveness when responding to Hurricane Milton and for their patience as we worked to reopen the Island.”
The Estero Island town saw some six feet of storm surge, which carried tons of sand onto its streets and into its businesses, which crews have been working to remove.
The curfew will remain in place until further notice, Berzin wrote.
Public health officials have advised staying out of the Gulf of Mexico until further notice.
