FIRST WARN FORECAST: Cold nights ahead with possible widespread frost

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Near-record warmth out there on Saturday afternoon as our high reached 90 degrees at KCI. That is one degree shy of tying the record high. Those of you searching for fall, don’t worry, it’s back tonight! We have a cold front that will push through the region later Saturday evening. This brings slightly cooler changes Sunday morning in the mid-50s, but you will notice big changes by the afternoon as highs only reach the lower 70s! We will have a noticeable wind from the northwest from 10-20 mph, with some higher gusts. The cooler surge is amplified even more for Monday. We will see morning lows in the 30s for the first time since late April. Highs are only near 60 on Monday and Tuesday, so we will see quite a wild swing in temperatures over the next few days. The morning lows could dip to the freezing mark on Wednesday morning, which looks to be our coldest morning ahead. Winds switch back out of the south on Thursday, and this brings us back into the 70s for highs. No major heat on the horizon, we might be done with the 90s for the year! With hitting 90 degrees today, 10/12/2024, that is the 5th latest 90-degree + day in record-keeping history. There are signs of rain in the near future! We are watching the potential for a system on Saturday that could bring some showers to the region. This is not super clear as of now, but our longer-range models at least are throwing some signs out there. We need the rain badly, so keep your fingers crossed this week to hold this system together. We will watch.
