Man critically injured after shooting on I-40, Knoxville police investigation underway

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department is asking the public for information about a shooting that happened on I-40 and left a man critically injured Saturday evening.

According to Knoxville Police, officers responded to I-40 East near the Holston River Bridge where a Ford F-150 had crashed into the center median around 6:55 p.m.

The driver of the truck, a currently unidentified man, was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man was taken to UT Medical Center with critical injuries, KPD said.

Officers detained and questioned a man who was witnessed running from the truck. KPD said at this time, no arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Detectives are also investigating a report that said there was an altercation between the Ford F-150 and the occupants of a white Jeep, which allegedly fled the scene, KPD said.
