23-Year-Old Man Destroys Police Cruiser After Animal Cruelty Arrest

WARRENTON, Va. – A Bealton man is behind bars after abusing an animal and then causing property damage after his arrest.

According to a media release from the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), the incident occurred September 30, 2024.

On that day, a FSCO deputy was dispatched to an apartment for an “unknown trouble” call. Once on-scene, the deputy was met at the door by 23-year-old Ethan Riley Overton.

The deputy observed that the apartment was in disarray, with chairs, tables, lamps, and other items overturned.

During the initial interview, Overton displayed tendencies that led the deputy to believe the subject may have been in a state of mental crisis. The deputy advised Overton that he would be transported to receive appropriate evaluation and assistance.

The deputy then noticed a tortoiseshell cat lying on the floor. The animal’s eyes were open, but it remained still and appeared to be injured.

Overton made a statement about the cat not being in good shape. A second FCSO deputy transported the animal to the Fauquier SPCA veterinary clinic. X-rays of the cat indicated that its neck was broken, and SPCA staff determined the only humane option was to euthanize the animal.
