Tragedy has struck the University of North Carolina as Tylee Craft, a beloved wide receiver, succumbed to cancer on Saturday. The 23-year-old had been fighting a courageous battle since his diagnosis in March 2022.

Despite his illness, Craft remained determined and pursued his education, earning his bachelor’s degree in May. His unwavering spirit was an inspiration to the UNC community, which rallied around him with the #TyleeStrong campaign.

On Saturday, during the football game against Georgia Tech, UNC honored Craft with an on-field ceremony. Friends and family wore shirts bearing his name and number, and fellow wide receiver J.J. Jones wore Craft’s jersey during the game.

After the game, the UNC men’s basketball team also paid tribute to Craft with a moment of silence and wore shirts with his name and number. Coach Mack Brown praised Craft’s resilience and determination, saying he “fought so hard for his two and a half years.”

Craft’s family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Coach Brown vowed to provide strength and guidance to the team in the wake of this devastating loss.
