Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Michigan

Gusty Winds & Fire Risk Primary Concerns Ahead & Behind Cold Front

10/11/24 5:00pm ET

Good evening everyone. As expected, our strong cold front is beginning to sag down from Canada, with windy conditions ahead of it and behind it. This is increasing the risk of fires due to dry conditions, but we are also seeing some heavy showers and thunderstorms developing in front of it.

Look for gusty showers and thunderstorms to continue over the next few hours acorss parts of upper (lower) and central Michigan; transiting areas such as Big Rapids, Mount Pleasant, and Tawas City. While we don’t have any severe weather watches at this time, we could still see some locally strong winds, hail, frequent lighting, and torrential rain.

Tomorrow, we’ll watch a new wave of energy interacting with our cold front. This second wave of energy will be responsible for more widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms, some of which could reach severe limits in parts of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio late tomorrow into the overnight hours.
