Winds and Cooler Temperatures Arrive in Marion

Fall blew into Marion this morning bringing temperatures twenty degrees cooler and brisk winds.

A deep low pressure over Lake Superior combined with the jet stream, flowing from the Montana-North Dakota border dipping south through Nebraska and Missouri before hooking back east towards Tennessee, brought strong winds and seasonal temperatures to the area.

Those winds, combined with moderate drought conditions prompted the National Weather Service to issue a weather alert warning of a “very high fire danger due to high winds, “cured crops and low humidity levels.”

The United States Department of Agriculture noted “combine and other equipment fires were reported as weather conditions increased the risk of such fires.”

The winds put a damper on otherwise ideal conditions for bicycling. Grant Wood trail was bereft of riders today as cyclists chose not to face a difficult headwind out of the northwest.
