Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Possible Across Parts of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan

Lake Effect Snows Likely Across Upper New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire

Good morning everyone. We have a lot going on today across the Great Lakes region and the Northeast as colder air begins to invade the area. During this process, reinforcing shots of progressively cooler to colder air in the form of waves of energy, are helping to set off not only heavy thunderstorms, but now Lake Effect snows as well.

Across areas of upstate New York, temperatures are dropping and evaporative cooling is taking place as heavy precipitation falls through the atmopshere. This is helping to change rain to a wintry mix, and in some cases, all snow. In the higher elevations of upper New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire, we could get a few inches of snow accumulation out of this over the course of the day and into the overnight hours.

Across Lake Michigan and the shorelines of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana, we will watch closely for Lake Effect rain and thunderstorms; some of which is occuring already. Over Lake Michigan and adjacent to the Wisconsin shoreline, we have heavy thunderstorms capable of strong winds and waterspouts.
