Amarillo ranked third safest city in Texas, new study says

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — When it comes to choosing a place to work, live or visit, the top priority that comes to mind is safety. A new study from WalletHub has ranked Amarillo as the third safest city in Texas.

According to WalletHub, more than 180 cities were compared across 41 key safety indicators. Safety comes in different forms, from natural disasters and mass shootings to traffic accidents.

Amarillo ranked 56th safest city in the U.S. and third in Texas, behind Laredo and Brownsville. The study found Amarillo ranked 33rd in financial safety, which measures factors such as the population, employed, insured, foreclosure rate and other key issues. Amarillo ranked at the bottom in natural disasters, which ranks the tornado, wildfire and hail risk.
