The boy told police he was walking with some friends in the area of East 26th and Parade streets when a group of six to eight people arrived. The boy said he heard gunshots and began to run, and as he ran he realized he had been shot, Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said Monday.

Detectives are looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, Lorah said.
