Blue Shield of California Announces Layoffs Impacting 61 Employees by December

Oakland, CA – Blue Shield of California has announced that more than a dozen employees will be laid off by December 11, 2024, according to a state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice. The layoffs will affect 61 workers across multiple counties, including Alameda, El Dorado, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Joaquin.

These layoffs follow earlier cuts made by the nonprofit health insurance provider, which laid off 140 employees in January. Blue Shield of California, headquartered in Oakland, has not provided further details on the reasons behind these layoffs.

The company’s actions are part of a broader trend within the industry, which has been adjusting to economic pressures and changes in the healthcare landscape.
