Tracking frosty October nights this week

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The coldest air of the fall so far has arrived to northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. If you’re a big fan of this fall weather, we hope you are enjoying the return to wearing jackets and hoodies.

Northern lights spotted across region

The cold weather will bring about some frosty nights though this week. We are tracking low temperatures to get down into the 30s and frost appears most likely Tuesday night and Wednesday night this week, although Monday night could still bring us some patchy frost.

While patchy frost cannot be completely ruled out Monday night, more widespread frost is anticipated Tuesday night and especially Wednesday night this week.

Remember that frost is a layer of ice that develops in temperatures ranging from 33° to 36°. On average, we typically can expect our first frost of the fall during the first two weeks of October. Considering we are now in the second full week of the month, we are running close to slightly later than average for our first frost.
