Tennessee man charged in alleged intentional hit-and-run incident near Hersheypark

Derry Township Police have charged a Tennessee man with severely injuring a pedestrian in a hit-and-run Oct. 6 near Hersheypark.

James Magaha, 34, Granville, has been charged with attempted criminal homicide and accidents involving death or personal injury for the incident, according to court documents.

“The incident stems from a ‘Road Rage’ type of incident and when the victim got out of their vehicle, the driver of the suspect vehicle intentionally steered towards and ran the victim over and then fled the scene,” police said in a release Monday, Oct. 7.

The victim has been identified as Juan Castro Jr., a professional standards lieutenant/station commander for Penn State Harrisburg police department.

At 9:41p.m. Oct. 6, police were dispatched for a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle in the 400 block of Park Avenue, also known as Route 743. Upon arrival, they found the Castro lying along the edge of the roadway.

“From witness statements and video, it is determined that the striking vehicle was a gray or silver Toyota Sequoia, possibly a 2023/2024 model year,” police said in court documents.
