Hurricane Milton: Foam, other debris wash ashore in Palm Beach in storm’s wake

The Town of Palm Beach was spared the wrath of Hurricane Milton and the tornadoes it spawned across Florida, but the storm’s effects are being felt here.

Debris has been washing up on town beaches, and over the weekend, residents and volunteers with Friends of Palm Beach spent hours picking up what might be Milton’s most significant impact on the island: plastic foam blanketing the shoreline.

The same material also has been washing up on Brevard County’s beaches, according to a FOX 35 Orlando report.

The foam came soon after Hurricane Milton exited the state, North End resident Dragana Connaughton told the Daily News Monday.

“I was down by the ocean Thursday evening, and there was foam, and I mean everywhere, as far as the eye could see,” she said.

The amount of foam has been staggering, Friends of Palm Beach Founder Diane Buhler said.

The organization collected 71 garbage bags worth of foam in just four hours on Saturday along the coastline spanning from the Palm Beach Inlet south to Mediterranean Road, she said.
