“It is critical to get your screening because early breast cancer is essentially a curable disease. 95% of women with early breast cancer survive and thrive, but if you get diagnosed later then it’s not that way,” said Dr. Brem.

The annual Walk to Bust Cancer takes place on Sunday, Oct. 20, and raises money to help low-income and uninsured women get screenings and treatment for breast cancer.

The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. at the Fort Hunt Park.
