The project’s goal is to educate and spread awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence and provide survivors with a platform to break the silence surrounding their abuse during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, according to the OPDV. The project began in 1990 in Massachusetts as a part of an annual “Take Back the Night” march and rally focused on bringing attention to violence against women by their intimate partners.
