Man taken to hospital, multiple people detained after fight and shooting at Specialty Steel Treating in Farmington Hills

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) — A man is hospitalized after he was shot following some kind of fight at an Oakland County business, Tuesday morning.

Farmington Hills Police said the shooting happened just after 8 a.m. at Specialty Steel Treating, near 8 Mile Rd. and Orchard Lake Rd. in Farmington Hills.

Police Chief Jeff King said responding officers detained multiple people involved in a fight that broke out before the shooting.

Officers also learned a man had been taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. He was last reported to be in serious but stable condition.

Chief King said a motive for the shooting, and what exactly led up to the gunfire is still under investigation.

Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950’s Luke Sloan, King declined to say if the alleged shooter is in custody.

“We are approximately an hour and 20 minutes into this, from the original 911 call,” King said. “We have gathered a significant amount of information and evidence from the scene, but we still have a lot of work to go. The primary thing is… the scene is stabilized. All of the individuals are safe at this time.
