Pinellas County church provides comfort, food to those in need

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — For the past few days, Generation Church in Largo has set up a tent outside their building and fired up the grill to give out free food.

On Monday, volunteers handed out hot dogs and burgers to anyone who stopped by.

Charging stations and Wi-Fi was also available inside the church building.

“I was literally just driving by, I was like ‘I hope I can maybe find water or a little bit of food,’” Pinellas County Resident Lindsay Haber said.

Haber also said her power has been off for the past several days and felt like the church’s effort made a big difference.

“People are lovely,” she said. “It’s wonderful that people can do things like this.”

Generation Church has also been helping people in the community clean up debris and storm damage.

“I saw hope really rise up in the wake of Milton,” Generation Church Lead Pastor said. “It is not just destruction, it is hope, that is left behind. “

Church Member Jill Griffith said flooding washed away many of her family’s belongings, severely damaging their home by the water and cars.
