Mundo Latino celebrates culture at the State Fair of Texas

DALLAS (KDAF)– Mundo Latino is in its 28th year at the State Fair of Texas. The exhibit pays tribute to the rich history and significance of the Day of the Dead. Located within the Women’s Museum, guests can explore art installations, shop from more than 30 vendors, listen to live music, and enjoy face painting.

Owner and producer of Mundo Latino, Rafael Luna, explained the experience both entertains and educates fairgoers on the significance of Latin customs.

“We decided to bring the Latino culture and our customs here, to the State Fair of Texas,” Luna said.

Luna said everybody wants a part of the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos, and the interest only grew further after Disney’s movie, Coco.

The second level displays a mock cemetery. Luna explained selected families decorate a grave site with their loved ones favorite food and trinkets. “Dia de los Muertos is a memorial day for us,” he said. “It’s our custom.”

There are also alebrijes sculptures, fantastical creatures, from Mexico. Other art installations include las catrinas, and memorial alters.
