Collector’s cherished 1939 Ford Coupe destroyed in fire at Wolfforth Farmers Market

WOLFFORTH, Texas — Gary Stringer, a well-known figure at the Wolfforth Saturday Farmers Market, faced a heartbreaking moment on Sunday when his beloved 1939 Ford Coupe was engulfed in flames just outside the market.

“It’s kind of sad,” said Stringer, a car collector and rebuilder. “There’s no way to describe the hours and time you spend building something like that.”

This car was more than just a project for Stringer; it was a family heirloom. “We’ve had it forever,” he shared. Complete with a high-performance Cobra engine, leather interior, and countless other enhancements, Stringer poured years into its restoration.

Despite its many appearances at car shows across the country, including the prestigious L.A. Roadster Show, the cherished vehicle met its untimely end yesterday. The fire broke out as Stringer was pulling over to let pedestrians cross the street.

“I heard a loud pop from under the hood and within seconds it was a massive amount of flames,” Stringer said.
